Among the dangers lurking in Congress's fall session and lame duck session will be Obama's demand that the Senate rush to ratify the treaty called New START, which he signed with the Russians in Prague last April. This treaty is not only a bad idea, it's downright dangerous to U.S. national security.
For the first time in the long record of U.S.-Russian treaties, New START links offensive and defensive weapons. Obama's advocates of ratification say that doesn't matter because...

Sometime in the next week or so, the U.S. national debt will exceed $13.4 trillion.
To put that in perspective: If you earned $1 every second, it would take you 425,000 years to earn enough money to pay off that debt. And it's not likely to get much better any time soon. According to the Congressional Budget Office, the United States will run up more than $1 trillion in debt next year as well, and for years to come. And with entitlement programs like Social Security and Medicare...
Obama Tax Hikes Defended by Myths and Straw Men

Abstract: President Obama has called for a huge tax increase to take effect on January 1, 2011. Instead of reducing spending, he proposes to raise taxes on a wide swath of taxpayers—including small businesses—despite the weak economic recovery. Congressional Democrats stand poised (immediately following the November elections) to endorse the President’s request and threaten to go much further. Proponents of letting the tax cuts expire—which would indeed be a tax hike—have offered...
Drill, Baby, Drill

If you thought this column was about oil, you’re going to be disappointed. Drill is a word that also means a practice or exercise in preparation for the real thing – think fire drill or the endless “drills” conducted on ships to prepare the crew for battle or emergencies. But as it relates to the California Legislature, even this definition is far too charitable.
In Capitol parlance, “drill” is best described as an empty exercise to prove some political point unrelated...

Hardly a day goes by without a story in some newspaper discussing some state’s dire financial straits. And there is almost always a state legislator being quoted saying if the state doesn’t find a way to increase revenues—i.e., raise taxes—soon, thousands, or even millions, of poor people will lose essential services.
The goal is to soften up the public’s natural resistance to tax increases so that when state elected officials say they must raise taxes, the public will...
Bag Tax
August 31, 2010
"Bag Tax" legislation would eliminate plastic bags and only allow grocery stores to use specific recyclable bags that can be toxic. The big grocery stores get a kick back while the little guys get hit! Tell the state legislature to stop spending our money. The only other government to fully carry out the bag tax plastic bag legislation has been Communist China.

Union Jobs vs. Children’s Lives: Which side are you on?
August 11, 2010
Congress has passed a $26 billion aid package that is intended to save the jobs of thousands of teachers, nurses, and other public-sector employees. To critics who call the measure a "special interest" bill, President Barack Obama says, "I suppose if America's children and the safety of our communities are your special interest, then it is a special interest bill."
In politics everyone claims to be on the side of the children, but who really is? Pat DeLorenzo is a parent whose...
